Our Immunization Program provides outreach and education for community members and health care providers, including information on vaccines and where to get them. We also provide vaccines to community members who are uninsured or underinsured.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do vaccines work?
Vaccines, also called immunizations or shots, work by strengthening your natural immune system. While our immune system can fight off most germs, there are some deadly diseases it can’t handle. Vaccines use dead or weakened germs so your immune system can safely learn how to recognize and fight off these serious diseases if you encounter them in the future.
Why should I vaccinate?
You can become immune to a disease by getting a vaccine or by getting the disease. With the disease, you have to get sick to strengthen your immune system. With the vaccine, you don’t. Vaccines are safe and effective and are tested extensively before they are ever given to people.
What vaccines do I need?
What vaccines are needed depends on your age, health status, and certain life events, such as travel, school, or pregnancy.
