Collections

Schuyler County Probation is the designated collection agency for any restitution ordered to be collected through any of the criminal courts in Schuyler County. When the Probation Department receives a restitution order from a court, our account clerk opens a collection case and notifies the defendant of the collection order and of the parameters of how they can pay the money to the probation office. When a payment is received, the amount is recorded in the file, and then the restitution is redistributed by the Probation Department to the victim that incurred the damages. By law, the probation office is entitled to collect a surcharge from the defendant for the services in collecting and distributing these restitution amounts. The Schuyler County Probation Department also collects DWI fees and supervision fees each month for all DWI and regular probation supervision cases, as well as a one-time drug testing fee which helps purchase drug screens for those probationers that require it and if mandated. All of those collections that contribute to revenues help offset the cost to the county and state taxpayers for running the basic operations of the Probation Department.

There are several ways that a person can make a payment to Probation for restitution or fees owed. Our Department accepts cash or money orders in the office. We do not accept personal checks.
